Kanchipuram is one of India's seven sacred cities and the seat of the Earth's element among the Pancha Bhoota Sthalam. The Ekambareswarar temple covers some 25 acres and is famed for its 3,500-pillared mandapam.
Mentioned in the Puranas; the present structure was expanded through the Pallavas, Cholas and Vijayanagara.
