The Siddhivinayak temple honours Ganesha as the granter of wishes, his idol carved with the trunk turned to the right. It is among the most frequented shrines in Mumbai, with worshippers from every walk of city life. Tuesdays, sacred to Ganesha, see the longest queues as devotees come to begin ventures under his blessing.
The original temple was built in 1801; the present larger structure has grown around that early shrine.
