Ambaji is one of the 51 Shakti Peethams and the most important shrine to the Mother goddess in Gujarat. The temple sits on Gabbar hill, reached by steps or ropeway. Devotees come to behold the yantra of the Mother rather than a murti.
An ancient shrine mentioned in the Skanda Purana; the present stone temple was developed by the Solanki rulers.
