Vastu Shastra
Vastu for Home
A complete direction-by-direction Vastu guide for every part of your home — main entrance, kitchen, bedrooms, puja room, staircase, and the plot direction itself.
Vastu for the main entrance
The main door is the most important opening in Vastu Shastra — the energy of the entire home enters through it. East and North are the most auspicious directions; both invite prosperity and good health. The door should open inward (clockwise when viewed from outside), should never have a door directly opposite (which lets energy rush straight through), and should be the largest door in the home.
Vastu for the kitchen (Agni corner)
The kitchen belongs in the South-East corner of the home — the Agni (fire) direction. The cook should face East while cooking; the stove sits in the South-East of the kitchen itself. Water elements (sink, water purifier) belong in the North-East of the kitchen. Never place the kitchen directly above or below the puja room: fire and sacred space conflict.
Vastu for the master bedroom
The master bedroom belongs in the South-West corner — the corner of stability, rest and longevity. The bed's headboard should point South or West (so you sleep with your head toward those directions). Avoid mirrors directly facing the bed. The bedroom should not share a wall with the kitchen or the toilet. The South-West quadrant of the bedroom is the strongest placement for the bed itself.
Vastu for the puja room
The puja room belongs in the North-East (Ishanya) corner of the home — the most spiritually charged direction. The idol or photo of the deity should face East or West (never South). The puja room should not share a wall with the toilet or the bedroom. Keep the North-East of the puja room itself open and lit; that corner activates the whole space.
Vastu for the staircase
Staircases move energy vertically through the home — a wrongly placed staircase drains the home of its positive energy. The staircase should rise clockwise (viewed from above) and should never start directly opposite the main door (which lets energy escape as soon as it enters). South, West or North-West are the strongest placements. Spiral staircases are acceptable as a last resort but never preferred.
Vastu for the plot direction (East, North, West, South facing)
The direction your main door faces determines the entire Vastu reading. East-facing plots are the most auspicious — they invite the rising sun, governed by Indra. North-facing plots (Kubera's direction) are equally favourable for wealth. West-facing plots are workable for those already settled. South-facing plots are the most challenging but can be fully remediated with specific placements and a careful entrance design.
