Moon Mahadasha: Chandra's 10-Year Emotional and Psychological Landscape

Chandra (Moon) Mahadasha extends for 10 years and governs the most emotionally sensitive and psychologically complex period in most natives' Vimsottari Dasha sequence. Unlike the visible planets whose Mahadashas primarily manifest through career, wealth, or spiritual achievement, Moon Mahadasha's central domain is the inner life — emotions, maternal relationships, subconscious patterns, domestic environment, and the fluctuating tides of mental wellbeing. Classical Jyotisha texts including Saravali (Chapter 35) note that Chandra Mahadasha delivers outcomes proportional to the Moon's natal strength: a waxing Moon (Shukla Paksha, ideally Full Moon) placed in the 1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th Bhava in Cancer, Taurus, or other favorable signs generates a 10-year period of domestic happiness, maternal blessings, and emotional abundance. A waning Moon (Krishna Paksha), particularly if afflicted by Rahu (Grahan Yoga) or Saturn (Vish Yoga), creates prolonged emotional turbulence, mental health challenges, and difficulties with maternal figures. The Moon rules Cancer and exalts in Taurus, where it receives the earth's stability to ground its naturally fluctuating nature. Debilitated in Scorpio, Moon Mahadasha with a Scorpio Moon generates intense psychological depth alongside emotional extremity. The Nakshatra occupied by the natal Moon adds the final layer of character: Rohini Moon Mahadasha natives experience beauty-seeking and material comfort as central themes; Ardra Moon Mahadasha natives face emotional storms and transformative grief.
