Which Finger and Metal to Wear Blue Sapphire

Blue Sapphire (Neelam or Nila) is the gemstone of Shani (Saturn) and must be worn on the Madhyama (middle finger) of the right hand, as the middle finger corresponds to Saturn's energy — responsibility, discipline, karma, and time — in the Jyotish palmistry tradition. The metal must be Panchdhatu (five-metal alloy, particularly if iron and lead are included) or silver. Iron is Shani's metal; however, wearing an iron ring is impractical for daily use, making Panchdhatu or silver the functional alternatives. Some traditions allow platinum, as its gray-blue tone resonates with Shani's sattvic-tamasic quality. Avoid gold for Neelam, as solar energy conflicts with Shani's cold, disciplining, and contractive nature. The Blue Sapphire must weigh a minimum of 3 to 5 Ratti (2.7 to 4.5 carats), with higher weights up to 7 Ratti for intensely Shani-related chart conditions. Ceylon (Sri Lanka) Blue Sapphire is the gold standard — cornflower blue or royal blue, eye-clean, natural, unheated. Kashmir Blue Sapphire is the rarest and most powerful but nearly impossible to source authentically today. Burmese and Australian blue sapphires are widely used. Avoid heat-treated or diffusion-treated stones — treatment disrupts planetary resonance in gem therapy. The stone base must touch the skin in an open-back setting.
