Bodh Gaya, Bihar · Lord Buddha
The temple marking the spot where the Buddha attained enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Mercury (Budh) · mind
The seat of the Buddha's awakening, sought for stillness and clarity — and, beside Gaya, for the offering of rites to the ancestors.
Darshan, seva and donations here are carried out on the temple’s own official website. We point you straight to it — no account needed — and the offering goes directly to the shrine.
The Mahabodhi temple at Bodh Gaya stands beside the descendant of the Bodhi tree under which Siddhartha Gautama became the Buddha. It is the holiest site in the Buddhist world and a destination for pilgrims and monks of every Buddhist tradition. The tall brick tower and the serene grounds make it a place of meditation as much as of pilgrimage.
A shrine first raised here by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE; the present brick temple dates to around the 5th–6th century CE.
The shrine is dedicated to Lord Buddha, and devotees come from across the country for darshan in the inner sanctum. What follows is the heart of what each pilgrim seeks here.
