A kundli, or janam kundli, is a map of the sky at the moment you were born. It shows where the nine grahas stood across the twelve rashis and twelve houses.
The rising sign, your lagna, changes about every two hours. It sets which house each planet falls in, so a correct time changes the whole reading.
Both show the same positions. The North Indian chart fixes the houses; the South Indian chart fixes the signs.

The default Vedic chart uses the sidereal zodiac with Lahiri ayanamsa. Its planetary positions and lagna depend on the birth date, time, place and timezone you enter; use your birth record where possible.
Birth time and place determine your lagna and house placements. A time near a sign or nakshatra boundary can also change the Moon’s placement, so check an approximate time before relying on a precise reading.
