The shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi lies within a natural cave in the Trikuta mountains, where the Goddess is worshipped as three sacred rock forms, the pindis. Pilgrims climb a long trail from Katra, often through the night, calling on the Mother as they ascend. It is one of the most visited goddess shrines in northern India.
An ancient cave shrine whose worship long predates written record; pilgrim facilities have grown steadily over the modern era.
The shrine is dedicated to Mata Vaishno Devi, and devotees come from across the country for darshan in the inner sanctum. What follows is the heart of what each pilgrim seeks here.
