Moon Sign Calculator
Find your Vedic Moon sign (Rashi) and birth star (Nakshatra) from your date, time and place of birth. Vedic horoscopes read by the Moon sign — not the Western Sun sign. This is the calculator that finds yours in seconds.
What is a Vedic Moon sign (Rashi)?
Your Vedic Moon sign — called Rashi — is the zodiac sign the Moon was travelling through at the exact moment and place of your birth. Vedic astrology reads the horoscope from the Moon sign, not the Sun sign most Western readers are used to. The Moon moves through all twelve signs roughly every 2.5 days, so your Rashi depends on precise birth details — the same way the western Sun sign depends only on your birthday.
Why the Moon sign matters in Vedic astrology
In Vedic thought the Moon (Chandra) is the significator of mind, emotion and the inner self. The sign the Moon occupies colours your personality, your instinctual reactions, your relationship with your mother and the emotional tone of your life. The Sun sign matters too, but secondary: it indicates soul-purpose and the deeper dharmic identity, while the Moon sign describes how you experience the world day-to-day.
How to find your Moon sign
Enter your date of birth, exact time (an approximation within an hour is usually enough since the Moon moves slowly), and place of birth. The calculator locates the Moon's position against the sidereal zodiac, anchors it with Lahiri ayanamsa (the official Indian standard), and returns your Rashi along with your Nakshatra (birth star) and the pada (one of four quarters) within that star. The result also gives the longitude to verify against any other tool.
Moon sign vs Sun sign — common confusion
Most online horoscopes, including the newspaper column your family may read, use the Western Sun sign. Vedic horoscopes use the Moon sign. These often differ — sometimes by one sign, sometimes by all of them, depending on the date. The shift is due to ayanamsa: the 24° precession of the equinoxes over two millennia means the sidereal zodiac the Moon sign uses is offset from the tropical zodiac the Sun sign uses. If you have ever felt a Western horoscope 'did not describe you at all', your Vedic Moon sign probably will.
What to do with your Moon sign
Your Rashi drives the daily horoscope, the monthly and yearly forecasts, the compatibility pairing, the dasha timing, and the dosha detection. Once you have your Moon sign, every other Vedic tool on this site becomes personalised — your dashboard, your Vaani conversations, the temples matched to your chart, and the remedies suggested for any afflictions all use the same Moon-sign identity.
