The system
Choghadiya (from the Sanskrit chatur-ghatiya, “four-ghati unit”) is the Vedic planetary-hour system applied to the day and night. Each day is divided into eight equal time bands (daytime) plus eight more at night, each ruled by one of seven planets. The system is widely referenced in Muhurta Chintamani and is the standard auspicious-time filter for commerce, travel and ceremony in Rajasthani, Gujarati and Marathi Jyotish practice.
