Divination asks a question and lets a sign answer it. You hold the question in mind, draw a card, a stave or six coin lines, and read what came up against your own situation.
For a yes or a no, cast a single rune. To understand a situation that is already moving, ask the I Ching. For the whole story, lay a tarot spread; for something concrete, a Lenormand line; for a kind word to carry through the day, an oracle card.
The Elder Futhark runes were carved from about the second century; the sixty-four hexagrams of the I Ching come from the Zhou dynasty, about 1000 BCE; the twenty-two major arcana follow the Rider–Waite–Smith deck of 1909; the thirty-six Lenormand cards date from 1799.
