Griha Pravesh is the housewarming ceremony performed when a family first enters a new home. A priest leads a puja, usually with a havan, and the family begins living in the house after prayer.

A priest fixes an auspicious time, then leads Ganesh puja, a kalash and a havan in the new home, with prayers to the household deities. The family enters at the chosen time, and milk is boiled in the kitchen as the first act of living there.
