Ganesh Chalisa
About this Chalisa
The Ganesh Chalisa praises Shri Ganesha — the elephant-headed son of Shiva and Parvati — as the remover of obstacles (Vighnaharta) and lord of beginnings. It is recited at the start of any new endeavour, on Wednesdays, and during Ganesh Chaturthi. The forty chaupais describe his form, his mount (the mouse), and his role as the first deity to be invoked in any prayer.
