Shiv Chalisa
About this Chalisa
The Shiv Chalisa glorifies Lord Shiva (Mahadeva) — the destroyer and transformer in the Hindu trinity. The forty chaupais describe his trident (trishul), the crescent moon in his matted hair, Nandi the bull, his dwelling on Mount Kailash, and his roles as destroyer of evil and bestower of boons. It is recited on Mondays, Shivaratri, and during Sawan (Shravan month).
