About this Chalisa
The Surya Chalisa praises Surya Dev — the Sun god, source of all life and illumination. The verses (approximately 32, rather than the standard 40) describe Surya's golden chariot drawn by seven horses, his role as the father of Shani and Yama, and his ability to bestow good eyesight, vitality, and victory. It is recited on Sundays and at sunrise.
