Surya Puja (Arghya)

( Prepare the space )

gather the samagri.

1. 01

   A copper vessel (tamba lota) for offering water — copper is prescribed for Surya Arghya

2. 02

   Water — ideally from a river or clean source

3. 03

   Red sandalwood (rakta chandan) paste

4. 04

   Red flowers: red lotus, red rose, marigold

5. 05

   Wheat or jaggery as food offering (Naivedya)

6. 06

   Incense and camphor

7. 07

   Red cloth for altar

step by step, with care.

1. 01

   Wake before sunrise. Bathe and wear clean clothes (white or saffron preferred)

2. 02

   Fill the copper vessel with clean water. Add a few drops of Gangajal (Ganga water) if available

3. 03

   Stand facing east as the Sun rises. Raise the copper vessel and pour the water gently toward a clean offering place, keeping your gaze on the vessel or water rather than looking at the Sun

4. 04

   Recite Surya Mantras during the Arghya: 'Om Hraam Hreem Hraum Sah Suryaya Namah' — 11 times minimum

5. 05

   For elaborate worship: apply red sandalwood paste and offer red flowers to the Sun

6. 06

   Recite the Aditya Hridayam (31 shlokas from Ramayana) for full Surya puja

7. 07

   Offer wheat or jaggery as Naivedya (food offering) and conclude with Surya Aarti
