Understanding the 2nd House — Wealth & Speech
The 2nd house (Dhana Bhava — house of wealth) governs accumulated possessions, savings, family of origin, speech, food preferences, the face and right eye, and early childhood environment. It is one of the two primary wealth houses (the other being the 11th). The 2nd house represents what you have accumulated — materially, linguistically (the quality of your speech), and through family inheritance (both material and karmic). Jupiter is the natural karaka (significator) of the 2nd house for wealth: a strong, well-placed Jupiter enhances 2nd house themes enormously. Mercury is the karaka for speech — Mercury's condition in the chart (and especially in the 2nd house) determines the quality of communication, eloquence, and intellectual expression.
