What a muhurat is actually checking
A vivah muhurat — an auspicious wedding date — is not a single number pulled from a chart of lucky days. It is the result of checking several moving parts against each other for a given date, time, and place: the tithi (lunar day) should avoid a short list of inauspicious ones, the nakshatra the Moon occupies should be one of the roughly dozen classical texts favor for marriage, the day and planetary hour should be clear of Rahu Kalam and similarly avoided windows, and neither Jupiter nor Venus — the two planets classical Jyotisha treats as essential to a marriage's blessing — should be combust, debilitated, or set below the horizon at the time. Because all of these shift constantly, a genuinely good muhurat for a given couple, place, and year has to be calculated fresh rather than copied from a printed list.
Why whole months close to weddings
The clearest example of why static date lists go stale is Chaturmas, the roughly four-month period beginning on Devshayani Ekadashi and ending on Dev Uthani (Prabodhini) Ekadashi, traditionally when Vishnu is described as being in yogic sleep and new auspicious ceremonies, including weddings, pause across most of North and West India. In 2026, Devshayani Ekadashi falls in late July and Dev Uthani Ekadashi falls in November, pushing the months between off the wedding calendar in the regions that observe it. The exact day shifts by a little depending on which regional almanac and moonrise convention is used, which is exactly why this guide states the window in months rather than a single fixed date — check a live panchang for your specific city before treating any date as final.
Guru and Shukra have to be awake
Beyond Chaturmas, two planetary conditions independently pause wedding muhurats in many traditions: Guru Asta and Shukra Asta, the periods when Jupiter or Venus respectively sit too close to the Sun to be considered visible and functioning. Because these windows depend on each planet's position, they move from year to year — 2027 opens with Jupiter placed in Leo and carries it toward Virgo later in the year, with a combustion window in between, which is exactly the kind of detail that makes a 2026 muhurat and a 2027 muhurat genuinely different calculations, not the same list with the year changed. A family that starts planning early should ask for that specific year's transit calendar rather than assume a favorable month simply repeats.
How to get your actual date
Because every input above depends on the couple's chosen city as well as the year, there is no honest way to publish one national list of 2026 and 2027 wedding dates that would be correct for every reader — a date auspicious in Delhi can fall on a different tithi in Chennai. The reliable way to get a real answer is to run the calculation for your own city and proposed month with a live panchang tool rather than a static article, which is what Healers World's own muhurat finder is built to do on request. Treat any printed date list you see, including this kind of guide, as a starting point for which months to ask about — not as the final word on the day itself.
