Major Arcana · Card XI
Justice
Cosmic law in action — truth, cause and effect, integrity, and the just outcome of past actions.
Justice Upright Meaning
Justice sits with scales (truth weighed impartially) and a double-edged sword (the ability to cut both ways — towards mercy or towards consequence). She sees without favour. When Justice appears, the situation will be resolved fairly — not as you might hope or fear, but as it actually is. This is karmic law in action: what has been done will have its proportionate consequence; what has been unjustly taken will be restored. Justice also asks for radical personal honesty: before expecting fair treatment from the world, are you acting with integrity? The scales must balance from the inside out.
Justice Reversed
Reversed, Justice indicates injustice — an unfair outcome, a biased judgement, or the consequences of past dishonesty arriving. It can also indicate avoiding responsibility for one's actions, or a legal situation that is not going in your favour.
Justice in Different Areas of Life
♥ Love & Relationships
A relationship will find its truth. If it has been unfair, imbalance will correct. If you've been dishonest or avoidant, this card asks for accountability. What is true must be acknowledged.
★ Career & Work
Legal matters, contracts, performance reviews, or situations requiring integrity — Justice is present. Be impeccably honest. What is fair will prevail over time.
✦ Spirituality
Justice is the law of karma made visible — the teaching that every action has an equal and corresponding effect. This is not punishment but equilibration: the universe always seeks balance.
Justice Affirmation
“I act with integrity. I trust in cosmic fairness. The truth always has the final word.”
FAQs — Justice Tarot
What does the Justice tarot card mean?
The Justice card represents fairness, truth, karma, and the consequences of past actions. When drawn, it signals that a situation will be resolved based on truth and what has actually been done — not on wishes or fears. It is both a reassurance (fair outcomes are coming) and a call to integrity (you are held to account for your own actions). In legal or contractual matters, it indicates a fair — though not necessarily favourable — resolution.
