Major Arcana · Card XXI
The World
The dance of completion — a journey fulfilled, integration achieved, and the wholeness that comes from truly arriving.
The World Upright Meaning
A dancer, draped in a purple scarf, moves within a wreath of laurel. In each hand she holds a wand — but these are held with ease, not effortful magic. The four fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) surround her — the corners of the world, fully integrated. The World (XXI) is the final card of the major arcana before the cycle returns to The Fool (0). It represents the completion of a great journey — the achievement of a significant goal, the integration of all that has been learned through experience, and the wholeness that comes from having genuinely arrived. This is not the restless satisfaction of ticking a box — it is the deep fulfilment of having become fully yourself through the journey.
The World Reversed
Reversed, The World indicates an incomplete journey — shortcuts taken, loose ends unresolved, or resistance to the final integration that would bring genuine completion. Something is left undone.
The World in Different Areas of Life
♥ Love & Relationships
A relationship reaching a stage of mature, deeply satisfying wholeness. Or: the completion of a chapter (graceful ending) that allows something new to begin. The World is rarely sad — even its endings are whole.
★ Career & Work
A major achievement is being completed. Success, recognition, and the deep satisfaction of work genuinely well done. Enjoy this. It is real.
✦ Spirituality
The World is the card of enlightenment in the tarot system — not as a dramatic event but as the quiet, dancing, integrated wholeness of one who has completed the journey and knows that the journey and the destination were always the same thing. And then The Fool begins again, and the dance continues.
The World Affirmation
“I have arrived. I am whole. The journey and I are one.”

What does The World tarot card mean?
The World (XXI) is the final card of the major arcana, representing completion, integration, accomplishment, and wholeness. When drawn, it signals the successful completion of a major cycle or journey — a goal achieved, a long process fulfilled, a chapter completed with integrity. It is one of the most positive cards in the deck and carries the deep satisfaction of genuine arrival. After The World, The Fool (card 0) appears again: the cycle is complete, and a new journey begins at a higher level.
